Common Eye Conditions
Glaucoma:
Reduction in vision is commonly slow and loss of side vision may not be noticed for a long time. The vision already lost cannot be restored. Once detected, eye drops, laser treatment and surgery can prevent vision loss or reduce the risk of further visual loss.
Cataract:
The development of Cataract is common and is normal with ageing. It is treatable and vision can be restored by surgery.
Macular Degeneration:
This is an age related condition that can result in the loss of fine detailed central vision. The vision already lost cannot be restored. In some cases ocular injections can be used as a treatment to retain and protect your vision from further loss.
Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma and Diabetes are common in our community and can cause catastrophic loss of vision by affecting the Retina or Optic Nerve. Once vision is lost from these conditions it cannot be restored, but prevention of further loss may be achieved in most cases.
